Conversation in the Car

Today on the way home from daycare Delaney and I had a very cute "conversation" about her friend Maya. Maya was sick today and I think Delaney missed her... here is our conversation...

Delaney: Maya at Maya house, Maya at Maya house

Mommy: Yes Maya was sick today.

Delaney: Yeah Maya at Maya house.

Mommy: Did you miss Maya today?

Delaney: Yeah (the tone in her voice was so sad...and she made a sad face)

Mommy: Do you love Maya?

Delaney: awwwwwwww Maya! (as she did the sign for hug)

Mommy: Don't worry Delaney I think Maya will be back tomorrow.

Delaney: Yay!!!!!!!!!!! Maya!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!! (as she clapped and cheered)


It's clear Delaney loves her friend Maya! It was quite hilarious to me that we could have a whole conversation now! Though she didn't use many words, her tone and facial expressions conveyed enough meaning for me to understand completely! I love this age.... I just had to share.. sorry no pictures... I was driving!

A Bad Case of Stripes.. well Polka Dots!

Today Delaney woke up with pink Polka Dots! At first I just noticed a few on her cheek and wondered if she had just slept on her blanket funny... but when I unzipped her jammies and found them all down her legs.....It reminded me of the book by David Shannon called "A Bad Case of Stripes".. except Delaney had polka dots instead! I was a little worried until Dana calmed some of my fears. We took her to the doctor to find out it was most likely a viral rash that went along with a virus she must have.... she also had an ear infection.. non related of course to the polka dots. I got her medicine for her ear and headed home and after a 3 1/2 hour nap she was playing like normal. She doesn't mind her Polka Dots one bit... and when I ask her to show me she lifts up her pants! silly girl! I've been calling her my polkie dot girl all day! Just thought I'd share our fun story!

The Wheels on the Bus

Delaney has been really into singing lately. She has always loved music!!! Now, she is starting to remember the words and actions to her favorite songs. She doesn't do her best when I record her because she is often distracted by the camera (and now she knows she can watch herself on it after I record her!) But here are two of her favorites right now... ABC's and The Wheels on the Bus. She loves her fridge phonics and she can put all the letters in to hear their sound but her favorite is the D of course. Each time she sings along to the alphabet song she gets a letter she didn't get the time before, but may miss one she had the time before! She almost always gets Z at the end! In the second video I appologize for having to listen to my singing voice... I wish I could edit it out! When I sing soft then she sings soft... so its hard for me to get this on video quietly! Anyways you'll hear her say "town" at the end of each line. She also gets "up" for up and down and "shhh" for mommies on the bus. She usually does the sound for "beep beep beep" but this time she was quieter with that one. She always scrunches up her face and puts her hands by her face for babies go "wah wah wah". And at the end when I tell her to say "love you" she extends a tribute to her friend Maya by saying "love you, Maya". Oh how Delaney loves her friend Maya! Enjoy!

We had a lot of fun with our little Valentine this year. Friday night we went to a party with our friends. The kids ate pizza and grapes, jello giggler hearts and some candy too! They played with Maya and Gavin's toys and did some art projects. They had a blast! I think the adults had a good time too.. I certainly did! Thanks Devon for having us at your house again! Saturday morning we drug oursleves out of bed and went up to my school's Sweetheart Pancake breakfast. Delaney enjoyed her pancakes and getting a heart balloon to run around with. She liked making a heart picture with stickers... and she had quite a few helpers handing her stickers! My present and past students LOVE Delaney! After the breakfast we headed off to The Magic House. I was excited to see what the new part had to offer but knew Delaney would love the sand and water as always! She really enjoyed herself the whole time! We took her to bread co for lunch as we know she LOVES grilled cheese and that squeezeable yogurt! Next up was a nap and Alex had asked if Delaney could come help him decorate some cookies. Delaney did more eating of the cookies than decorating! We enjoyed a yummy dinner and some time spent with Mimi, The General, Granny and PaPa and Alex of course! Alex played legos with Delaney forever! Thanks Alex! Thanks Mom for dinner! Thanks Jer for a great day spent with Delaney! I hope everyone enjoyed a special day with their loved ones!

Reading

Here is some footage of Delaney reading.... not the best as she was getting tried and it was right before bed! ...but you'll get the idea! In the first video you'll hear her point out the fish, the baby, the baby crying, the kiss and hug pictures....then the baby in the bed, duck, bear...apple, cheese and milk. in the second one you'll hear her start with the monkey sound, roaring like a tiger, a flower, she'll moo like a cow and say moon (even though she points the the clouds). We had a blast at the zoo today. Mimi came with us and we got to see a lot of animals and play in the zoomagination station! Delaney was a bit frightened of the monkeys at first because she didn't understand the concept of the glass wall! She warmed up quickly though and liked saying hi to the Monkeys. She loved seeing all the animals and was very good at trying to repeat their names. She got to ride on the carousel and we played in this cool little room called the zoomagination station... it was perfect for young children and Delaney had a blast. She really enjoyed the little playhouse, opening and closing the shutters and door! She wasn't sure what to think about the bird seed and moon sand at first but she quickly caught on! Delaney also got an early Valentine's Day present... a oink monkey named Baby Dangles. She's been dragging him around all afternoon and hugged her monkey tightly when it was time for bed tonight. We were thankful for some decent weather for a wonderful winter zoo day!
